Ultra Rare Hewlett Packard HP 1338A Tri-Color X-Y Display.

Hard to even find data on this model. (In no small part because today's HP has re-used the 1338 part number.)

I seem to remember that it used a beam penetration scheme instead of a mask to produce the colors, this was quite remarkable at the time. Now I'd guess that the only home for it will be in a museum. (Or in an industry with a required equipment list that can't be altered.)

This one still seems to work, you can see the display showing different colors in the pictures.
I fed it a ~2MHz signal, with a short bit of RG-58 to the X input and a 25ft line teed to the Y input.
The different shapes were produced by altering the duty cycle of the triangle-wave output of the sig gen.

As you can see, it has plenty of sticker residue and some scratches. It's been in the back room here for at least 10 years, so it's dusty too.
